Great food and service and a bargain
Unexpected "hole in the wall" Thai restaurant located across the street from the old naval air station. Great tasting food with mild, medium, or spicy options. I wish this place was in Portland as I'd be there everyday. Very reasonable prices. Jasmine or brown rice served with meals. My meal for lunch was two fish cakes, brown rice, salad, chicken with yellow curry sauce, and Thai iced tea for $12.95! It filled me up. Free parking in front and back.
Always a great meal at Monkey Thai! Small garden salad lightly dressed with peanut dressing. The Mango fried rice is perfectly fried with chunks of mango. Not greasy and flavorful jumbo shrimp with tail. My sis and her BF ordered the won ton soup no noodles and requested extra veggies...super chunky! The broth was delicious and seasoned to perfection! I ordered the combo which includes choice of appetizer plus entree and choice of white or brown rice plus a drink. Thai Tea was good. And Green curry is the best!! Service is great. Overall great experience. Mmmmm...the best green curry. :-)
Small seating area. Three dine-in dinners; Pad Thai with shrimp and fresh roll, Spicy Eggplant with Duck, spring rolls and Jasmine rice and Masaman Curry with shrimp and fried wonton with chicken. All were very good. Portions were generous. Price was reasonable. Service was efficient and pleasant. They seemed to have a busy take out business, too. Will return for dine-in or take out.
Delicious Thai food and sweet family-owned business - probably the best Thai food in Alameda . I love the larb, pad thai, and the banana leaf dessert (grab extra for breakfasts). It's also a great place to grab take out from before hitting up Faction or Almanac. Only downside is the sketchy restroom.
